Sambalpur defeated Sonepur by 96 runs in a Group-I league match of the Under-16 Boys Inter-District Cricket Tournament at Nimpur Sports & Cricket Club ground here today. This was the second win for Sambalpur and they qualified for the super league.
Nabarangpur, Angul, Malkangiri and Keonjhar registered wins in four other preliminary group league matches of the day. Nabarangpur edged out Kendrapara by one run, Angul crushed Rayagada by seven wickets, Malkangiri defeated Bargarh by five wickets and Keonjhar got the better of Nuapada by two wickets.
